Life lessons I learned by playing boardgames

  • Different stages ask for different priorities. People who are ready to adapt win more often.
  • The best players are able to bring strategies from other games into every game they play.
  • Players are the most important pieces of any game.
  • You can have fun even if you lose.
  • Don’t expect to master a game if you’re not ready to try different strategies. So many players play the exact same strategy every single time. They are risk averse. If you play new strategies and you might fail spectacularly a few times, but you’ll be unstoppable pretty soon.
  • There’s dice in most games, even the highly strategic ones. Good players prepare for luck so they get lucky more often. Even if things don’t turn out well, they take it in their stride. Bad players hope for luck, and blame the game if a roll goes against them.
